Washed Ashore (v1.1) Walkthrough
- The game starts by reminding you to enable the audio for the soundtrack and to regularly save your game while playing.
- There is a short introduction story: your ship was lost in a storm, and you washed ashore on the beach of an island. All you have left are the pants you are wearing.
- Look in the pockets of your pants to find a note with a poem. The poem is actually a helpful list of commands and verbs.
- On the beach, you will find a sharp shell in the sand.
- On the rocky slope, there are some rocks. You will find a flintstone between the rocks.
- On the windy cliff, there are some birds. One of them is a hungry seagull that says “Keee-ar!”
- In the oasis, there is a pond with drinkable water. Drinking the water increases your constantly deteriorating health.
- In the pond, you will see a fish, but you cannot take it yet.
- At the overgrown ridge, your passage is blocked by ferns, deadwood, and vines. Use the sharp shell to cut the ferns and deadwood.
- Pull the vines a couple of times to move them aside, revealing a cave entrance.
- In the cave, there is a bed of leaves which can be used to sleep. Sleeping increases your health drastically.
- On the grassy knoll, you will find a plant. Looking at the plant reveals some peanuts, which you can take. Eating the peanuts increases your health somewhat. Fresh peanuts will always grow from the plant.
- On the mountain top, there are some heavy wooden logs. It looks like a fireplace. The mountain top has a wide view over the island and the sea.
- In the swamp, there are bamboo bushes. You will find a stick among them.
- In the jungle, you see some birds, including a parrot. If you give your peanuts to the parrot, it refuses them. The parrot says “Keee-ar!” just like the seagull.
- You can make a spear by using the sharp shell on the stick. This is the only way to get the fish.
- You cannot eat the fish, but you can give it to the seagull or the parrot or the fish in the pond.
- The useless seagull eats peanuts and fish until it is no longer hungry.
- Catch another fish and give it to the parrot. It will eat it and fly away.
- You will find the parrot again at the mountain top. Give it another fish, and it will fly away again.
- At the sandbank, you will find an old boat and some planks. Both seem broken and useless.
- Under the gravel, there is a rusty steel anchor.
- Using the flintstone on the anchor creates a spark, but nothing happens.
- In the forest, you see trees where you can find dry twigs.
- Using the flintstone on the anchor sets the twigs on fire. The twigs set the boat and the planks on fire, leaving only hot, glowing coals.
- You cannot take the coals with your hands.
- At the quicksand, you see a skeleton stuck in the mud and a bag. The skeleton wears a hat with a name on it: Flint.
- You can try to take the hat with the stick or the spear, but you can’t get a grip on it.
- Using the spear on the bag will lift the bag from the quicksand.
- The sand next to the mud contains a spyglass.
- Use the spyglass to search for a ship on the horizon. Currently, there is none.
- Use the bag to take the coals safely.
- Try to use the coals on the logs. You are warned that there is no ship to signal.
- Use the bed again. The parrot will wake you up after a long sleep, saying, “Ship ahoy!” It flies away again, but you will find it at the mountain top.
- Using the spyglass, you will see a ship.
- Now you can use the coals on the logs to create a large fire.
- Use the spyglass again to see that the ship is gone.
- Look at the parrot. It says, “Beach!”
- Go to the beach to find the parrot again. When you look at it, it just looks at you strangely and flies away.
- Clueless, you should use your spyglass again.
- You will see something washing ashore. It appears to be a closed bottle with a paper in it.
- You can read one side of the paper. It contains a message from Flint Flagpants, a cry for help in the form of a poem.
- Opening the bottle will break it, revealing a drawing on the back of the paper. It is a complete map of the island.
- On the map, you can see a boat on the sandbank with a flag that looks a bit like blue pants (or the capital “F”).
- It also shows a red arrow pointing at the beach. Flint says he will WAIT there. The word “WAVE” is also capitalized.
- If you pick up on the clues, you may consider using your pants as a flag to wave for attention.
- You remove your pants and wave, but no one seems to notice.
- When you decide to WAIT on the beach, a ship arrives.
- A lovely lady sailor lets you know you cannot board the ship because of the dress code. This seems to end the game: please try again.
- You restart at the beach. However, it seems that you still have all your belongings.
- While using the bed, you occasionally have a dream. You can only look at the dream or remember it in the cave. The dream is a poem about your shipwreck story but also contains a hint.
- You cannot embark without your pants.
- Wearing your pants again, you wait until the ship arrives again.
- This time, the lady has a positive message. She says the parrot helped them find you, and you can board.
- She also shows some interest in your spyglass.
- The game ends with a poem about your story and a finale soundtrack. The lyrics consist of Flint’s poem, the dream poem, and the finale poem.
